Josh Kraft Statement on the Urgent Need for Reform in Boston Public Schools
BOSTON, MA – The following statement can be attributed to Josh Kraft:
“As the Boston school year draws to a close, I want to congratulate the hard working teachers, paraprofessionals, guidance counselors, principals and families of the Boston Public Schools, but I am calling upon the Mayor to share her plans to correct the management failures and bureaucratic inequities that impact so many Boston families.”
What is Mayor Wu’s plan to fix the following management problems?
- Ensuring that kids aren’t spending half their waking hours on a school bus, and making sure that school buses pick up and drop off our children safely and at appropriate times.
- Ensuring that our neediest Boston special education and English Language Learner students have continued access to their federally-protected, free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive setting, without federal intervention.
- Fixing the exam school admissions policies which have disenfranchised entire neighborhoods, and punished students based on their zip code. While Mayor Wu seeks to divide our kids, as Mayor I will recognize that talent exists in every neighborhood and will work to unite the city.”
