Kraft Campaign Sends OCPF Complaint Letter Around Mayor Wu Campaign Violations
BOSTON, MA – This morning, the Josh Kraft campaign issued a letter to the Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF) to call attention to what appears to be a clear violation of Massachusetts campaign finance law, the use of public funds for political purposes by Mayor Michelle Wu.
While the Josh Kraft for Boston Campaign has a campaign headquarters located in Nubian Square and has hired a campaign team that consists of 29 paid staff members and consultants along with hundreds volunteers, Michelle Wu’s campaign recent public OCPF filings name a mere three staff members—who appear to be fundraising staff—and she would appear to have no campaign headquarters from which to conduct political activities based upon the absence of any payment for rent. In her 2021 race for mayor, by contrast, candidate Michelle Wu found it necessary to employ a staff of 18 persons as of May of that year, at a cost about double her current campaign payroll spending.
The letter also asks OCPF to examine evidence suggesting impermissible coordination between the Wu Committee and a Super PAC called Boston Turnout Project that played a key role in making her Mayor in 2021.
The Josh Kraft campaign has received numerous reports of political work being performed during work hours inside City Hall by public employees, which are also noted in the complaint letter.
