Statement from Josh Kraft Campaign on Mayor Wu’s Latest Failures

Boston, MA – The campaign of Josh Kraft released the following statement in reaction to a series of management failures by the Wu Administration:

“Under Mayor Wu, the city government is not working for the people of Boston. In the past week alone, we have learned about the city’s failures when it comes to administering elections, its inability to maintain safe and sanitary conditions in our public housing developments, and the ballooning salaries of city employees at a time when the mayor is raising residential taxes on homeowners.

The failure of the mayor with respect to the elections department is especially alarming. The city failed to provide enough ballots to precincts on Election Day and then went unreachable requiring the Secretary of State to step in to correct the problem. Most alarming is that Mayor Wu has done nothing to address this problem and as a result, an outside receiver has been appointed to ensure the upcoming elections will be administered competently.  This is completely unacceptable.

Yesterday, we learned that under Mayor Wu, the Boston Housing Authority has failed to provide clean and safe conditions for our public housing residents, according to a recently released federal audit. Remarkably, problems were found in 31 of 36 housing units examined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of the Inspector General. Our public housing residents are among our most vulnerable citizens, and many are people of color, and the failure to protect them is wrong.

Lastly, we learned over the weekend that under Mayor Wu, city salaries have ballooned dramatically with the average salary jumping from $74,330 in 2023 to $105,034 in 2024. That is an increase of over $25,000 in a single year. The explosion in city salaries shows that it is just not believable when the mayor says there isn’t a penny of savings to be found in the city budget. Clearly, fiscal responsibility and prudent use of taxpayer resources under this mayor are an afterthought – not a priority – and this is just the latest example.

As Mayor Wu heads to Washington DC this week, the challenges facing the people of Boston as a result of her failures will be here, needing attention, when she returns.”
